Orion drifted through a cluster of pale stars until he found a lake floating in the void-a perfect mirror of crystal-clear water, reflecting the cosmos above. He landed softly, his feet barely disturbing the surface.

He looked into the lake and saw not his own reflection, but the images of worlds he had visited-the silver tree, the singing stones, the garden of silent stars.

"Who are you?" a voice asked.

A figure rose from the water-a being of shimmering light, with eyes that held the depth of a thousand skies.

"I am the Guardian of the Lake," it said. "I hold the reflections of all who have passed through the universe."

Orion knelt by the water's edge. "Can I carry a reflection with me?"

The Guardian nodded. "Carry one that holds peace."

Orion reached into the lake and scooped up a glowing fragment-a reflection of a world where harmony reigned.

He tucked it into his heart and rose into the sky.

He would carry that peace across the cosmos, sharing it with every world that needed it.

And as he traveled, the Lake of Reflections shimmered behind him, a reminder that even in chaos, peace can be found-waiting to be carried into the light. The End.

The photograph was worn, the edges soft, the image faded. Lena held it in her hands, studying the faces of the young soldiers, her grandfather among them. They were smiling, arms around each other, young and alive and unaware of what was to come.

"Where was this taken?" Alex asked.

Lena turned the photograph over, read the handwriting on the back. "Bastogne. 1944."

They drove to Bastogne, the town surrounded by forests and fields, the memories of war still fresh. The museum was small, filled with artifacts-uniforms, weapons, letters. Lena walked through the exhibits, her grandfather's photograph in her hand.

"Excuse me," she said to the curator. "Do you know where this might have been taken?"

The curator studied the photograph, his eyes widening. "This is the Place Saint-Pierre. The square in the center of town. It looks different now, but the buildings are the same."

They walked to the square, stood in the shadow of the church, looked at the buildings that had witnessed the war. Lena imagined her grandfather here, young and scared, finding a moment of joy among the chaos.

"He was here," she said. "In this exact spot."

Alex put his arm around her. "And now you are too."

They sat on a bench, the sun warming their faces, the town going about its day. Lena looked at the photograph, at her grandfather's smile.

"I wish I had asked him more questions," she said. "About the war. About his friends. About what he saw."

"He wouldn't have told you," Alex said. "Not because he didn't love you. Because he couldn't."

She nodded, tucked the photograph back into her pocket. "I know."

They stayed in Bastogne that night, eating at a small café, walking the quiet streets. The past was everywhere-in the bullet holes still visible on the walls, in the memorials, in the names of the dead.

"Tomorrow," Alex said, "we go to Germany. To the places where the war ended."

Lena looked at the stars, at the sky her grandfather had seen, so many years ago. "He never wanted to go back. But I think he would want me to."

They held hands, the night quiet around them.

The journey wasn't over. Not yet.
